Ch-ch-changes
Today is the third day of no meat. I will still eat fish and eggs. Yesterday I had cheesy eggs, yogurt, and berries for breakfast. For lunch, I made a brown rice stir fry with cucumbers, carrots, onions, and corn. Dinner consisted of a lovely sushi dinner with a seaweed salad. Today for breakfast, I had two multi-grain waffles with honey and a glass of orange juice. I am currently out of eggs, among other things. I am going grocery shopping today to stock up on proteins, produce, and vitamins. I will be posting on here to keep up with my progress. If I can do it for 30 days, I can do it forever, or at least until I’m ready to get back to cows and chickens. And don’t worry, I won’t turn into one of those judgmental assholes who makes you feel bad. This is a personal choice for me. Tonight I plan on making a tofu spinach salad. Wish me luck!
Here is my grocery list.
-peanut butter
-nuts
-beans—-> black, garbanzo
-lentils
-whey protein
-rice milk
-fruit
-eggs
-fish
-veggies
-spirulina tablets
-mult-vitamins
-veggie burgers
-english muffins
-multi-grain bread/buns/pita
-hummus
-tofu
-frenchbread pizza
-multi-grain pasta
-cheese
-veggie sausage

2010
Greetings all! I can’t believe 2010 is coming to an end. I just wanted share some of my most favorite memories from this year. It really has been one hell of a ride!! I suppose the best way to break it down is by month. So here goes.
I went into January with a very positive attitude and clear head and while it hasn’t always stayed that way, I’m glad that I’ve been fairly good about maintaining this new leaf. Not a very eventful month, but I was fortunate enough to attend an OUTDOOR festival in FL, Aura Festival. It was my first time going to a festival solo, without Elliott or any other “band” girlfriends. I had a freaking blast and now know I can set up a tent drunk in the dark while rain is pouring down. Not to mention I was able to completely let loose without feeling the responsibility to please or entertain those around me.
On to February, also known as my birthday month! I did a good amount of traveling. First, we took a girls trip to Nashville. It was so much fun and the weekend ended with us getting into a very exclusive club that had an open bar, we were told to just tip the bartenders, but no pictures were allowed. 10 minutes later, we were immediately thrown out due to Nicole taking a picture of herself. So embarrassing, but a blessing in disguise I’m sure. Nashville really is one of the coolest cities I’ve been to so far. Make sure you check out the Pancake Pantry if you ever go, their sweet potato pancakes are heavenly. I spent my birthday with my ladies with a cheap Mexican dinner. We had a great time and it was totally stress free for once. Then came Austin!! I failed to mention that mine and Elliott’s anniversary happens to fall on my birthday and it just so happened they were playing a show down there that weekend. So, my sweet boyfriend got me a plane ticket for my birthday. What a wonderful place to turn 26. It really is a gorgeous city full of so much good food and great music. I need to go back soon, but with my girls this time. Needless to say, February was def one of the best months of the year.
March!!! I went to SAVANNAH to see Jordan and we had a wonderful time!!! It was one of the best weekends, EVER!! I also spent St Pat’s in ATL at a Malah show, of course. There were also a lot of mountain trips, which I am incredibly thankful for. I wish I could say I did more hiking this year. I will def make up for it in 2011.
April was kind of a breaking point. I hadn’t worked since December of 2009 and I was constantly job hunting, but also relying on the unemployment I was receiving to get me by. Well, one of my best friends got accepted to University of Denver and before I knew it, a trip to Denver was being planned and I wanted to go so bad, but I wasn’t sure if it would work out. Fortunately, I got a call back on a job I was hoping to get and got hired 2 weeks before we were expected to leave. Thank goodness for tax money and Brioso. April was also full of some sad times. Elliott’s gma passed away and about 2 weeks later, one of my dearest friends commited suicide. I was ready to get out of SC. So off we went to Denver for a week. It was incredible. I understand why people relocate there so often. It really is quite amazing. I look forward to being out there again in the spring. Oh and I met HUNTER BROWN from STS9. Call me lame, I don’t care. I am still stoked about meeting the guitar player from a band that changed my life 6 years ago.
May brought in the heat, and I don’t mean temperature. I mean the WIDESPREAD PANIC Cinco De Mayo show I caught the DAY I flew back into town from Denver. Jetlagged, not showered, and downright exhausted, I hauled ass from ATL to GVL and proceeded to dance for the next 2 hours. It was so much fun and a great welcome home. Elliott’s brother got married as well and he and I were deemed (by me) “King and Queen of the Shitshow.” Once again, I was fortunate enough to attend another festival, Purple Hatters Ball. Its held every year in FL in honor of the unfortunate and untimely death of Rachel Morningstar Hoffman. If you don’t know about it, look it up.
June started out with celebrating Elliott’s 27th birthday and ridiculously hot temps. I find myself wishing for warm weather and when it arrives, I curse the heat. I worked a lot this summer. Generally, my day consisted of working 10-4 during the week, going to the gym, and then doing nothing. I also had to re-examine myself over this time. I found myself being unappreciative of the things around me and opportunities I was given. I suppose summertime was a time of reflection for me. Seasons always bring about change. Also, my adopted niece Sophia was born to John and Nilska. I absolutely adore this child. I can’t wait to watch her grow up! I did a two night Panic run with Jesse in Charlotte (theres a blog about it) in July and it was incredible. However, I learned that some habits never change. Friendships changed as well and I wondered whether some of the people in my life were worth having due to toxic behaviors that started to trickle down to me.
August was hands down one of the best months I’ve ever had and also one of the saddest. Sad because it was the start of Elliott leaving for 6 weeks to go on tour. I wondered if I could do it. Thanks to one amazing boyfriend and the greatest group of friends a girl could ask for, I did. Charlotte and I decided to go to Muddy River in NEW JERSEY to see our boyfriends. We made a pitstop in DC and grabbed her friend Char. DC was awesome, all you can eat crab legs!! However, the festival was kind of lame/sketchy. Probably the dirtiest festival I’ve ever been to. But I did get to see some really good music, so not all was lost. Then came Blackwater in FL. It just so happend that STS9 was headlining the first night and The Malah got booked to open up the festival that Thursday night. I was hoping to see Hunter again after meeting him back in April at my friends wedding, but no dice. I remember it was so hot that when the thunderstorm came, Elliott and I just laid in a hammock underneath the mossy trees and cooled down. So STS9 comes on and they played one of the BEST sets I’ve ever seen them play and of that tour. Maybe 500 people there and you would’ve thought it was a show from 04 or 05. So amazing. I said good-bye to Elliott the next day and headed to ATL for night 2. I ended up getting a free pass to the show and was so thankful to catch an ACOUSTIC tribe set. It was simply beautiful. The best night was to come though. Saturday night I met up with my tribe in Alpharetta aka “Team Rage Ke$ha.” I had a goal that day, to meet Big Boi before he went on. After doing some quick pre-gaming in the hotel room, we caught a cab to Verizon wireless. I lost them quickly to the lot scene and headed inside to catch Big Gigantic, ending up with a pit pass. During the Disco Biscuits, I realized just how hungry I was and went to stuff my face. I found my crew, but lost them again. My good friend Jesyka ended up having one extra VIP pass and decided to give it to me. What do you know, operation meet big boi was in full effect. So there I was backstage trying to keep it together and sure enough I met Big Boi and Lerner from STS9. All I could say was, “Thanks for set at Blackwater, it was amazing.” I quickly found my team after the show and we began the journey back to the hotel, which was long and involved 2? cabs, plus an Ellen that wanted to go downtown, 30 miles away.
I went into September really depressed and managed to jam my toe and get sick within a week of each other. Plus, I missed Elliott so much. However, school and work provided to be the perfect distraction. September was a reunion for me and “Team Rage Ke$ha” as we all descended on Charlotte for some BASSNECTARRRRR!!! Good times were had by all and I cannot remember the last time a dj impressed me the way he did. Bassnectar truly is a master of his craft. CLOWN PLAZA for life!
October involved more traveling. First to Charleston to see The Malah and then off to Savannah for the weekend to see Jordan. I finally got to see all of the sights of Savannah, plus some quality porch time with Jordan and Andee. Oh and Ryland. I love him. I picked the perfect weekend to go down, as there was a record fair going on. I got some great vinyl to add to the collection. I also found myself in FL for the 4th time this year. Halloween in Tampa was a lot of fun, but I don’t think I’ll be going back next year. And for the record, the guys from Boombox are total douchebags. Well most of them.
November brought on BEAR CREEEEEK!!! Out of all of the festivals I’ve attended, this is the one that steals my heart every year. Getting to see Bonobo perform with his live band was the highlight of my weekend, hell maybe even the year. So incredibly moving. For any of you that have never attended Bear Creek, do yourself a favor and GO!
So here we are at December and I find myself reflecting on all of the good fortune I’ve had this year. Great music, wonderful friends, a job, a loving boyfriend, and an awesome family. I am one lucky girl and I only see things going up for me in 2011. I hope whoever reads this is in the same high spirits I am.
Never stop dancing. Never stop smiling.
Much love to you all!
Some music for ya…
Haven’t really been using this as much as I would like to, but I wanted to drop some fresh new music on your ears.
First, do yourself a favor and download the new Big Gigantic album, “A Place Behind the Moon.” These guys are quickly becoming one of my most favorite booty-shakin bands!! They have managed to make an album that has whomp whomp, but is still full of intelligent electronic dance music that you won’t want to stop listening to. I promise.

Next up, Archnemesis’ “Diamonds & Glass” which is being released on 1320 records. I finally caught these guys last Friday here in Greenville and even though its just 2 dj’s, the production is flawless. They def got the place moving before Boombox came on. In the words of my friend Andy, “Why isn’t Boombox opening for these guys?” So true. Archnemesis is the brainchild of Curt Heiny (Telepath) and Justin Aubuchon (MO Theory & Chronicles of a Landsquid). “Diamonds & Glass” is a combination of original, unique music mixed in with some soul, hip-hop, and jazz. Good for the soul and even better for your dancing feet. Check em out if they come close to you, these guys are slowly climbing to the top of the ever evolving electro scene.

Next, Up Until Now (1320 Records).
“The two members of Up Until Now have so far lived lives completely centered and orbiting around music. They come from a collective past involved in bands with genres of reggae, world beat, rock, hip hop, funk, electro-pop, NIN industrialism and even heavy metal. With this new project, they distill the pure essence in music that has always driven them, and channeled it into electronic dance music with the sole goal of making bodies move. When you get talent of this type with huge broad experience, and have them focus it into one vision, you best believe that it burns like a laser.”

An Open Letter To Gay, Bi & Transgender Teens by Dave Navarro on Wednesday, September 29, 2010
Ok everybody, here is the deal. I cannot imagine what it’s like growing up in a close minded environment and being gay, bi or tans-gender. I don’t think any of us who aren’t can possibly imagine. The strength and character it must take to stay true to yourself in such an unforgiving microcosm are qualities that a major portion of the world lacks… Sad, but true. It’s just how it is at the moment. However, it’s that very strength and character that gives the world hope for a new way of thinking and acceptance in the future and when one of our children gives in and gives up, it is not only a tragedy but a victory for those who fear diversity. DO NOT LET THEM WIN! I know how overwhelming the feelings can get and how small the reality can feel, but the bottom line is that this is but a drop in the bucket in terms of the magnitude of life. You can get through this. High school is full of plenty of bullies and fear based hate, as is the world. With any group of people comes a percentage of people who just don’t get it and probably will never get it. That’s OK. We all deal with this to an extent. The truth is that in High School, you are kind of stuck in the group you are a part of until graduation, but trust me… You can pick and choose who you associate with and there are plenty of like-minded people in the world that are understanding, accepting and loving. Sometimes, we just have to stick it out to meet them. The hard cold reality is that once you have chosen suicide, that’s it. No going back. Sure, there is a public outcry and MAYBE the bullies feel remorse for a while, but it all dies down, life goes on, the bullies let the memory fade and get on with their lives. They learn to laugh, love, reach their goals and in many cases go on to have a full and productive life. Who loses? You do! Your family! Your friends! Other teens who need support in this area! Oh yeah… We all Lose! Now the world has one less mind that is open and different and unique and sensitive. Instead, we inherit the bullies, the fear, the set back… Our world has one less soul to help it evolve with a new level of clarity. Personally, I have seen a lot of darkness and tragedy that has felt insurmountable. The murder of my mother, my battle with drug addiction, the loss of friends and family. Utter depression and despair. Of course the thought of suicide has crossed my mind a time or two. Let me share this. THANK GOD I never took that action. The friends I have made, the experiences I have had, the laughter I have shared would have all been missed. In hindsight, some of my darkest moments now seem so small and insignificant that I am amazed I gave them so much power at the time. I am even able to laugh about it now. When I think back to the times I have considered ending it all I end up saying to myself, “What was I thinking?” To those of you contemplating such a course, please do us a favor. Seek counseling first. Find a network of people who have gone through what you are going through. Help others in even more turmoil than you. I am certain that you can find peace. As you know, our society and political climate is SO divided right now. We need your voice. The world at large needs your sheer existence in order to come to terms with itself and where we are going as a planet and species.

Much love to you all!!
Everybody, PANIC!
So it’s been a week since I went to Charlotte, but in between, I have been rather busy with life. Quick rundown on whats been going on since the last time I tumbld. I made it back from Charlotte in one piece and immediately went back to work. Continuing my life as a cashier in the wonderful world of Brioso. Yay. Don’t get me wrong, I am more than thankful to have a job, I just wish I got more out of it. Oh well. Money, money, money. This week was also Elliott’s last full week in town until probably November. We spent it helping him move into his new place in the backwoods of good ole’ Pickens. Whoa. First night we slept there, we were awoken by the sounds of crowing from roosters, or are they chickens? Mindless ramble. Yesterday was really awesome, I had my first hot yoga experience. I feel awesome and I am def going to try my hardest to keep up with my practice. Not sure if I could do hot yoga everyday, but I am planning on alternating b/t the Vinyaysa classes I’ve been doing downtown and southernOM. Thanks to Jordan and Ellen for getting me out there. Alright, so on to the review.
Last weekend my best friend and I embarked on our journey to Charlotte to see two nights of Widespread Panic. Both nights were really great. Friday night was def my favorite of the two nights. Jesse and I got to our hotel at around 4 and then rode around for an hour and a half trying to find a grocery store, only to end up at the strangest and biggest Wal-Mart I have ever seen. Beer-check. Food-check. Champagne-check. On to the hotel. I took a quick nap and then got in the shower and proceeded to get ready. We popped a bottle and quickly headed down to the lobby to catch a cab. I forgot to mention, that this Holiday Inn had been taken over by a decent amount of heady brahhhs. The hallway of the 6th floor was full of that skunky smell that only us nug lovers can appreciate and you always caught a whiff of patchouli getting on and off the elevator. Needless to say, the hotel staff was provided with plenty of amusement from us. More about that later. So we catch a cab, Mitch was Haitian and insisted on calling me baby the entire ride. He also said he would be there for us after the show. $13 dollars later and we’re at the show. Damn, its packed and we didn’t even make it to “Shakedown Street.” So we get in line and chug a couple more beers and start talking to the people that are family for the weekend.
Finally, we’re in!!! Missed the first song, damn! Although, I was told it was “Hafield” I later found out (after I texted a million peeps) that it was actually “Pleas.” So sad to have missed it, that song is just beautiful and what a way to start the show! So we get in there in time to hear them go into “Sometimes”, not one of my favorites, but the boys just sound so tight, I don’t even care. Hands swaying in the air, body noodling to the beat, and I’m singing along to every word coming out of JB’s mouth, with the hundreds of others around me. The sun finally starts to set and the lights, oh the lights, just so crisp and beautiful. I have always said, Panic has one of the best light rigs around. Then comes “Time Zones”, great song, always nice to hear Jimi and JB wail on their guitars. This went into “Surprise Valley”, one of my favorite songs in the world!!! “…Goodbye its time to fly..” Yes sir, it was! From here on, they just killed it, one after another. Jam, jam, jam. All of sudden, I remember my first show in Asheville and the love I found that night with these guys. The only thing that would’ve made it better..Michael Houser. RIP. Valley>cotton was king>Valley>St. Louis>FIXIN TO DIE>PORCH SONG!!!! I get my very first “Porch Song” and a slow one at that night. Phenomenal! “…having a good tiiiiiiime, here today, watchin the sun shine…” Oh man, I was in such a euphoric state by then. Then came “Sleeping Man”, “True to my nature”, and a definite crowd pleaser, “Don’t be Denied.” This song will always make me cry bc of the third verse,
“Pretty soon I met a friend,
Who played guitar
We’d set on the steps at school,
And dream of being stars
We started a band,
We played all night..”
I just remember reading about shows they played after Houser passed away and seeing JB perform this song with a quiver in his voice, not a dry eye in the house. Still brings goosebumps to think about it. They ended the first set with an absolute bang, “All time low” and “Give.” Whoa. I was covered in sweat and in desperate need for a bathroom and a cold beer. Wooo, we love $12 tallboys. Not really. Charlotte got so much money from us headz last weekend. Anyway, on the second set. I’ve noticed over the years, they’ve switched up how they do their drum jam. It used to be at the start of the second set, no matter what. Not so much anymore. So they opened up with “Impossible” and if you look at the set-list you’ll see >’s like crazy. Pigeons!!!!!!>Chest Fever, Saint Ex (never heard it before) and as the heat and sweat is just seeping through my body, CHILLY WATER, yes please bring on the cool, cool water!! I had just gotten a full bottle of water that I slung all over the place to cool the crowd off. It felt amazing in the humid air. School’s bass was fire during the second set, Sonny was banging on those congas like there was no end in sight, Todd is just a solid drummer, and JoJo was pounding on the keys. Ahhhh, so amazing!!! Then comes the drums and jam and we’re all clapping along to the beat, dancing with the person in the row next to us. This goes into “Papa Legba” and then back into “Chilly Water”, what?!?! The rest of the set was just as full of energy as the first, if not more. Crazy, Ain’t Life Grand, DISCO!!!!!! > Action Man > Swamp, You Should Be Glad. Just lovely!!! Set is over and Jesse and I decide to start heading to middle bc if the encore was going to be “Climb to Safety” we were leaving. No offense, but I hate that song. Lo and behold, its RED BEANS!!!! I’m not even sure where we were in the amphitheater, I just know everything I was holding was thrown onto the ground and I proceeded to dance all through the aisles with every joint in my body aching. Finally, it ends, the house lights come up and Jesse and I are just beat. What an incredible show. Words can’t even describe the happiness that came from that night. Heart pounding, high-fiving and hugging everybody around us, we head out.
So we get outside and call Mitch, no answer. So we call the cab company and the lady on the phone doesn’t know where Verizon is?? WTF? So we try our hardest to hail a cab, to no avail. Finally, by a stroke of luck, we catch the attention of Mr. Miami (the nickname I gave him due to him wearing sunglasses while he was driving) as he is turning around and he stops in the middle of the road and lets us jump in. Turns out, he’s already going to our hotel, SCORE!! However, the people in the cab with us had to be the loudest and most obnoxious drunks I have ever encountered in my life. Pair that up with a drunk Jesse and welcome to the cab ride from hell. So we finally get to our room, have a beer and pass out. All the while, still blissed out from what we had just experienced.
Night two coming soon, now I must get ready for work.
[Only ‘When You Coming Home’]
full review to come later.
